Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son Release Timeless “Empty Passenger Seats”

This track is “New Jersey” in the truest ways. It’s got a Springsteeny, Gaslight Anthemy vibe, with heart and soul well beyond Mahoney’s years and a guitar riff that’s just an all-out mother fucking rocker. “Empty Passenger Seats” has that indescribable timeless quality to it that just makes it feel like an instant classic, that has a vintage feel without being dated.

There’s an unbelievable amount of energy in Mahoney’s music. This is the type of jam you play air guitar to. Shamelessly. Like whether or not people are staring. Fuck it. You can be a rock star too. Just like Bobby Mahoney. You get in your wide stance, strum your cords, bang your head, throw a badass kick when the chorus hits so everybody knows what’s up. That’s what this tune’s about. Head banging, high kicking, speeding down the fucking highway with an empty passenger seat, being twenty-two years old and euphoria of your life not being over yet.

‘Empty Passenger Seats’ started as a riff/jam with my friend Dan Cohen (Creating Clementine, Hero of Me), and then I brought it to the band and we shaped it and arranged it together in a hotel room near Pittsburgh. John Shepherd whistled that little guitar lick in the chorus, and recording that bit was one of my favorite parts of the process for these new songs. We drove over night home from Richmond at the end of last summer’s tour, and that experience became the lyrics for the bridge. This song feels like the band’s current journey in a way, and it is just a lot of fun to play. It’s loud and it kicks you in the ass. This is the first of a bunch of new singles we will be releasing and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. We had a great time working with Frank Marra (Brian Fallon, Jared Hart, Dead Swords, many more) at North End Recording and we can’t wait to keep releasing the new songs.”
"The Outskirts" The Punk Anthem of the Summer
Any street rat can hear how much effort and talent that has gone into the production of this album. Bobby Mahoney by himself is a mastermind, but I think Bruce Springsteen and Bon Scott came to him in the night and implanted the formula for a great rock album straight into his frontal lobe. Bobby Mahoney and Jon Alba have outdone themselves yet again. [Read More...]
MAKIN PLANS: Bobby Mahoney to rock Brunswick fest
As for "Outskirts," the punk-fueled rant "Running Away" stands out with its searing guitars and a staccato boom that is likely to get the crowd at both shows pumping its collective fist. The Southern rock-inspired jam that breaks up the punk angst of ".38 Special" also is a lot of fun. I also like "Jackie Was a Renegade," which fuses the Americana of a young John Mellencamp with the roots-rocking snarl of Social Distortion.
Shoreworld: Bobby Mahoney And The Seventh Son – The Outskirts
If you’re looking for something that has the typical sounds of the Jersey Shore, The Outskirts probably isn’t for you. The record steps far outside those boundaries, at times dancing the razor’s edge of hardcore and metal before settling into a boisterous center of raw rock and roll. [Read More...]
